Worried about Herpes. Please Respond

Hi. I've posted once before. I'm in a new relationship with a guy who is hsv-2 positive. I'm negative.  He's on supressive therapy and we use condoms. We've had protected sex 5 times and unprotected oral 2-3 times.  The risk factor, I've been told is 2-4% with condoms and the daily supressive therapy over a year.

I've noticed more itching and burning lately. I also have a small tender spot that looks like it is an ulcer I'm not sure if it is psychosomatic or something more (checking? worrying?). I guess the question is, if I I've waited for a week, can they still get a swab off of this practically microscopic ulcer, do I need to wait 3+ months (I know that's true for the blood test) to be tested or is there any way to test a new infection now?  Perhaps the sore spot is due to something else?

Last week I had what I thought to be a urinary tract infection. Is there any way to confuse those symptoms? They seem pretty different to me. Although I've read that the ulcers/blisters can present themselves in the urinary tract. I treated it with pro-biotics and herbs for urinary tract health and it mostly went away within 2 days, although there is some occasional burning,

Thanks. It's funny, but I think I might have both going on at once. A UTI and a possible herpetic lesion with some itching burning....I've got to get in. Tried today, will go tomorrow.  Thanks for your responses. Grace, anything to add?

I have never heard about blood being involved with herpes discharge. (Grace)?  That does sound more like a UTI to me.

BTW, herpes sores in the urinary tract are associated with intense pain on urination, so if the pain is not as great, I'd think that is less likely.

discharge including some blood? That's the newest development today. I tried two times to get into the clinic today and they said their walk-ins were full.

I'd try a PCR swab of the area in question.  No need to wait 3 months for that, just do it ASAP to get a more accurate result.  You're right that a culture will probably be negative no matter what.

Herpes can in fact present UTI like symptoms, including discharge.
