can i transmit herpes from oral to genital and then genital to me

i have had oral cold sores on the out side of my mouth, this time i felt sore on my gums near the back of my mouth on top part in between my gums and my lip in side. is it possible that this is a cold sore? or herpes? i had oral sex with my partner thinking it couldnt be any thing.. mabie i ate something hot? now im worried my friend said it sounded like a cold sore, and that i could give him genital herpes, we had genital sex right after oral .. so i was worried that i could have possibly given him genital herpes along with myself. please help!
i have also one more question regarding cold sores. if at that time i was sharing off of the same glass with some body or siver ware would i have given them oral herpes?

As an adult, oral herpes is almost always transmitted thru romantic type kisses and not thru sharing food and drinks.
