hmm very scared. was diagnosed with hsv but do not know which one yet

Ok so here is my situation, its kinda bad and the obvious answer isnt good.  My question is what are the chances of this not being hsv - 2.

I was seeing a girl for about 4 or 5 months that has HSV 2.

she was on anti-viral medication(acecyclovir), we used condoms most of the time and we obstained from sex during OB's(she only had one and we didnt have sex for that whole week)

we had sex about 15 -20 times over that period.   twice the condom broke(in the beginning) and twice we used no condom(so a total of 4 out of all of 15-20 times) near the end of the relationship.

I broke up with her and noticed a rash/irritation at the bottom of my penis. it had small line of swelling going down my foreskin(not circumcised) and down the shaft. it would be fine if i left it alone(wouldnt even notice it) but if I masturbated or messed wit the irritation it would begin to get a burny feeling.

Anyways- it didnt look like herpes so i didnt freak out. well this went on for a month(infact i still have the small irritation) and then i got kinda worried. so a doc... he said it did not look like herpes and just a irritation but i should get std tested anyways b/c of my contact with this girl.   I explained to him the conditions(frequency of sex, condom use, anti virals, no sex during ob's) and he assured my chances were very low of having it.

well i get a call from the lab and they tell me i have herpes. i ask which one and they say hsv 1.  "are you sure its hsv 1??? the mouth one right?"  yes she says.    one month later i call the doctor out of paranoia cuz of the irritation still remaining and he says "it just says you have a new infection of hsv, it doesnt say whether its hsv 1 or 2 yet."   I begin to freak out and he says the girl must have read it to me wrong and that he has the test right infront of him, it says "patient has hsv infection, no history of hsv. tell to come back in x amount of weeks for retest for type specific"

he says I probably acquired the virus within a month of the test(got tested a month ago) and to come back in another month to get a type specific.

he said it could be hsv 1 that i got somewhere in that month, hsv 2, or I could be having a reccurrence of hsv from the past that is showing up but that its unlikely.

in that month before i got tested, I made out with a girl 2x and maybe a month(or half a month) prior i made out with a different girl.

so basically possibilities are:

1. I got hsv 2 from the girl i was seeing.  Despite her being on anti-virals, only having sex when no OB's and wearing condoms the good majority of the time.

2. I got hsv 1 from the girl who had hsv 2-- we made out a lot, there was a time we didnt have sex when she ran out of medication and we only made out. although she has no history of symptomatic hsv 1 so if she has it then she's never shown symptoms.  -- she does get a bump on the side of her mouth though a couple times but they were not lesions or weeping ulcers

2. I got hsv 1 from the one girl i made out with 2x within that month.  But I also did not notice any lesions or ulcers on her mouth(dont think she had any)  so it wouldve prolly been asymptomatic

3. I got hsv 1 from the first girl I made out with.  again asymptomatically as I noticed no ulcers

4. the small chance I already had a form of hsv and it happened to be active during the time of the test

Unfortunately number 1 seems to be the most likely, is this true?  I did make out with two other girls but neither had visible symptoms and what would be the chances of me contracting it from them anyways? and I did make out with hsv 2 positive girl a lot(she is unaware if has hsv 1 but never had oral sores besides the occasional bump she gets on the side of the lip).

I read when somebody is on anti-virals that the transmission rate is 3% a year for males(assuming sex is 1-2 times a week) and half of that with condom use.  Im just so suprised i fell under that category in a 5 month period.

My friends are telling me not to freak out until i get the next test that shows which hsv I have.   Its just very hard to be optimistic in this situation.  are they right? should I not be freaking out until I find out which one, or are is so likely that i have hsv 2 from the first girl that I shouldnt have hope that i got hsv 1 from another source?

its just destroying me because im in a relationship with this girl for the past 2 months(no sex yet) and she is pretty much the best thing that ever happened to me and I KNOW its going to end our relationship if I find out I have hsv 2.   I cant even look at her the same.. ive been depressed the last couple days and she knows it but cant figure out why. its just hard to have hope..   should I go about things like normal until I know for sure?

The tests were performed by Quest diagnostics. Im not sure if that makes a difference but I thought heard they were pretty legit in their testing.

my invoice from them shows

RPR (monistor) W/refl
herpes 1 simplex
herpes 2 simpelx AB
Herpes Simplex
Herpes Simplex

maybe this is of no help to you but i thought id give any info I could.  is it possible all of these were for IGM tests?

btw thank you for your quick response. i really appreciate it

I think your doctor's don't understand the herpes blood testing enough and are screwing this all up for you. It sounds like you had a herpes igm blood test done.  That was a total waste of time. There are a zillion posts here on the igm testing if you search about it.

Symptoms that last for over a month probably are not due to herpes. They can be but more often than not they aren't.  At this point it's too late in the symptoms for a lesion culture to be of any use whatsoever to get faster answers.  If you can get a copy of your blood test results and post them here I"ll gladly look at them - ie hsv1 igg .34 and hsv2 igg .32 or whatever they are. Don't even post any igm results - they were a waste of time and money and your doctor needs to bone up on his herpes blood testing and stop ordering them!

let me clarify one more thing

when i say the girl who had hsv 2  had no history of hsv 1 symptoms --

I mean that she has never been tested for hsv 1 (only culture from primary hsv2 outbreak)  but does not recall every having mouth blisters.   she only gets a bump/decent size pimple looking thing on the side of the lip
