waited too long to test

Is it possible to wait too long to get tested?  For instance, if possible exposure through unprotected oral sex occurred five months ago, would a negative test now mean there was no infection now and none likely in this five month window?  In other words, could an infection from chlamydia clear itself from the urethra, so the urine test results were negative now, but the infection had spread to other areas of the body over the last five months with no way of the tests catching it now.  No discharge ever noticed, no pain when urinating, just TONS of worry now.

Thank you for posting that, that has also cleared up my knowledge of chlamydia clearing up. My apologies for the incorrect information.

From my reading I say that gonorrhea clear better, but since you have a question into Dr.HHH if you want that specific answer check with him.

Yes gonorrhea within a several weeks (6 or so) and same with chlamydia. Both can clear on there own, because they are bacterial. But this does not guarantee that they will. And gonorrhea is more apt to clear then chlamydia.

NGU you would see symptoms within 2 weeks at most. Yes you would see symptoms (discharge pain when urinating).

Here's a clarification from one of the doctors in this doctor's forum:

"You received some inaccurate advice on the STD community forum.  Both gonorrhea and chlamydia clear up without treatment, usually within a few months -- although some chlamydial infections can linger for a couple of years (maybe rarely as long as 4 years)."

What would the expected timeframe from date of possible exposure for NGU symptoms to surface?  It's been almost nine months now, and I've had no instances of burning upon urination and no discharge that I ever noticed.

Thanks for your responses.  In your last comment, you mentioned getting tested for Gono, Trich, NGU, syphilis and HSV.  Referring back to my original post on this thread, I got tested for all those except Trich and NGU five months after the one possible exposure, which was just receipt of oral.  The full STD panel I had done came back negative.  With no burning upon urination and no discharge that I can ever recall seeing, do you think NGU is even a possibility?  Would I not have had more serious pain from NGU by now (which is actually 7 months from the exposure)?

Stress can cause symptoms but if your doctor has diagnosed you with something then you could have an infection or you could have had an irritation of some sort. I couldn't tell you forsure.

Oral is a low risk for the following, Gono, Trich, NGU, and even lower for syphilis, and HSV.

If you are concerned of any STD it would be one of the ones I listed. If you feel you need testing to ease your mind you can test for those and if negative it isn't an STD that is causing this.

OK.  Thanks for the info.  Would you chalk up my feelings of abdominal discomfort and intermittent testicular and penile (tip) pain to stress, anxiety and guilt over this incident?  My internist diagnosed me with a swollen prostate a month ago.  Do you think the discomfort and mild pain I'm experiencing, as described above, could simply be from that, and unrelated to any possible STD?

Because the CDC is extremely careful about what they put out and other sites follow the CDC.

the experts on this forum study STDs incl. chlamydia for a living and haven't seen a case in their years of study.

The fact that oral sex is not even a risk for chlamydia is something I've seen over and over again on this site, but tons of other literature suggest otherwise.  Why such a difference, when this site, and the reputable doctors on it, seem to have vastly different opinions than other reputable sites and STD literature I've seen.  Are the others just scare tactics?

No that is not true, some doctors believe that Gonorrhea can clear on its own but I'm not aware of the same for chlamydia. And when they believe gono clears is after a long time infection longer then 5 months.

Oral sex is not even a risk for chlamydia so you dont even have a need to worry.

I had heard infections like chlaymdia can, in fact, clear on their own.  Is that misinformation?  There is so much out there on the internet, it's really hard to know what to believe and what NOT to believe.  Do you see any cause for concern on my part, if my only exposure was the one (receipt of oral sex) encounter five months ago, no testing immediately after, yet all negative STD test results five months later?  I know I'm paranoid, but hey, that's just who I am, I guess.  Thanks!

No if you were infected 5 months ago and just tested it would still be positive unless you were treated for it
