Allergy to antibiotics...

Bloody hell, I have been taking Erythromycin antibiotics most of my life, for constant ear aches, and gum problems etc and never had a problem with them.

So i get a gum abscess see the dentist and he prescribes me Erythromycin. I have taken 3 and got tingly lips, and an itchy rash on my chest. Rang him up and he told me to stop taking them immediately as I have had an allergice reaction to them. I MEAN come on how can I? This is mad innit and I still have the abscess and the pain boo hoo.

Woke up this morning and still feel rank. I have new prescription for Tetracycline which i have used a lot before but think i might give it a miss today as i feel really fragile and my nervous system is doing the hokey kokey around the bed lol.

I read that people with lupus can have sudden intolerances with Erythromycin.......makes you wonder doesnt it.

Hi sweet pea,

How are you doing? Has the rash gone away? How about the abcess? can't they do something else?

I have to admit I am afraid of dentists. whenever I go I have to remind them I am a "scardey cat" and I actually asked them to write in my file so everyone knows and will be gentle LOL

what a baby...Funny thing is I have no problem them giving me needle for novicaine..I just don't like anyone picking around my mouth.

I hope your nurse can do more for you.

Sorry to hear you are going through this!  I am not sure why, but I have heard of this happening to others before.  I know I've read about it somewhere in my studies for nursing, I just cannot remember, lol!  I don't think it was specific for Erythromycin either.  But you are right, I do remember it having something to do with autoimmune disorders....

Sorry, not much help, lol!  Hope you are feeling a little better!  Let us know how it's going.
Love and hugs!

Well the largish area of red itchy warmness was still over the top of my right breast and above my chest nearto my armpit. I tried not to scratch. Its not raised but looks like an area of sunburn which itches although not all the time.

I saw my nurse yesterday and she had never seen anything like it, as if it was a reaction she would have thought it would have been in other areas, so she is not convinced it had anything to do with my tablets.

She wants me to try cortisone cream to see if it helps. If it hasnt and is still there on Monday i have to see the doctor. she spoke to the doctor and she will see me monday if it is still there.

It is bizarre and I feel poopy too like i am in a bad flare.

I wonder if my autoimmune just went nuts with the tablets....???

Anyone got any ideas? I think i will try and take a photo of it.

Hi jibby hubby take care of me? thats funny lol.

Its weird as i have spoken to a few people now who have had the same reactions with my antibiotics and they all had either MS or Lupus, so I think an answer on Lupus web site by Niko explained it to me quite well really.

I had a good rest yesterday, and today need to take the new ones.

Just hoping these behave as i had bad toothache again last night where the abcess is telling me its still there lol.

Its only a small abcess but they can still be painful.

How are you buddy?
