I'm so tired

Since being on lamotrigine I have had broken sleep and weird dreams- anyone else had this? ALso at the moment I'm waking in early hours with tingling/itching in my feet. I have tried alsorts to relive it- the best I have found is to get and ice pack from the freezer and put that on. I hope freezing my feet doesn't do any harm! I think I'm going to gradually come off the lamotrigine cos it hasn't made any difference to my symptoms anyway. I spoke to my neuro on phone earlier this week. He says this proves my symptoms are not seizure activity. He doesn't seem prepared to acknowledge the fact that ganglioglioma has been mentioned on both my MRI reports as a possibility. From my research 90% of these present with seizure activity and many are resistant to anti-epileptics. He wants me to start another anti-epileptic and mentions differential diagnosis of peripheral neuropathy even tho i have had normal EMG/NCS or migraine even tho I don't get headaches.
I'm still waiting for my second opinion, once I get one I feel like letting the first neuro know what I think of him! That is presuming the second neuro as any good.
Off for a nap now- thank goodness for a day off ! Spoogie xx

i hate it when the doctors want to place all your symptoms on stress (my parents love doing it) i think we would know if we're overworked. i'm glad the neuro is taking you seriously and that he is running more tests. hopefully you can get some sort of answers

Saw the new neuro yesterday who seemed to take me seriously! Am now waiting for an EEG. He said my symptoms don't sound like temporal lobe seizures but we'll wait and see. I wasn't as happy when he mentioned I may have simply been overworking! Spoogie x

hi there

i'm also on lamotrigine but it's in a mix with valproic acid. i get the weird dreams which i didn't have while i was only on valproic acid but i don't have the broken sleep or the tingling/itching feet. it also makes me super tired no matter how much sleep i get but it's the mix that works the best for me so i'll stick to it unless it gets really bad.
the fact that you aren't responding to the lamotrigine doesn't mean that it isn't seizure activity, some people just don't respond to certain meds so you should try something else. i tried 3 combinations before i finally got this that works for me.
if you are going to come off the lamotrigine just make sure that you let the neuro know (no matter how much you dislike him, trust me i know what it's like to dislike your neuro but mine is one of the best in our country and my body is very difficult, he is the 3rd one i've been to, so i'm just gonna have to stick with him) sometimes coming off it can have very bad effects even if you do do it gradually.

take care
