My Neuro Appointment...

Hello All!
First I want to thank you all for your support and kind words....xoxoxoxox

It went very well! Eventhough she did not know what was wrong I came away with a sense of peace.
She pretty much told me the exact oppiisite of what my previous neuro said.

She told me that I did not show any signs of Transverse Myelitis and am not sure what caused the other doc to dx me with it.There was nothing on my cervical MRI to even suggest it.

She was extremely intrested in the fact that I have been having menstral irregularities since this all started. Also the fact that I do not get pregnant. She said that there could be a connection between the neurological issues and the menstral abnormallities. She reffered me to a Fertillity expert to get to the bottom of it. I truely feel because she is a women she actually listened when I told her about it.

She is also testing me for some oddball things like toxin and heavy metal exposure. Our home got hit by a bad hail storm. We got a new roof and siding. But during the inspection black mold was found in our bedroom window. They are going to replace the windows. So she's testing for mold exposure too. I feel like I'm on an episode of House.LOL

My neuro exam was completely normal...

MS is still not excluded at this point.

She is scheduling my 1st LP. Should be done in the next few weeks. They dont do them in the office. It's done at the hospital by a Radiologists using Floroscopy. So it should be just one poke and over with.

She also said that I may be having Migraine Varient.
Migraine variant (MV) or migraine equivalent is the term applied to migraine, which exhibits itself in a form other than head pain. MV is characterized by paroxysmal episodes of prolonged visual auras; atypical sensory, motor, or visual aura; confusion; dysarthria; focal neurologic deficits; or gastrointestinal manifestations or other constitutional symptoms with or without a headache. Many MVs have been defined by the International Classification of Headache Disorders (ICHD-II) 2004 classification. These include hemiplegic migraines, basilar migraine, childhood periodic syndromes, retinal migraine, complicated migraines, and ophthalmoplegic migraine. Vertiginous migraine, acute confusional migraine of childhood, and nocturnal migraine, although well recognized entities, remain unclassified by the IHCD-II.

She said that how we proceed will determine on the results of the LP.....

She told me get back in the gym, eat what ever the heck I want and to take hot showers agin.
I am hopefiul that she will be able to get to the botton of this.....

Please Take care,Theresa....

Hey, binx - hadn't thought of it like that: 3 good neuro experiences in a row. We should keep a little ticker on the top of the board! Then we could award Gold Stars to each specialism at the end of the month! LOL.

I hate this 'box' they have, particularly for wimmin it seems. Sexism and even misogyny is not dead in the medical profession - what's that about?

Anyways, I came across this article about different types of head pain. Useful for those of us with cervical spine mayhem and also those who have 'migraine' dxs. The writer seems to question the ubiquitous migraine explanation for all these odd pains we get.

dear theresa,

i was so glad to read your post this a.m.  this is 3 positive neuro experiences in a row:  jenny, kristin and now you!  next it's maria and sam's turns...

i can understand your feeling guarded--like i mentioned, i'm doing the same thing with my rheumie--but it sounds like you found a real thinker which is incredibly encouraging.  the fact that she brought up all those other issues shows that she does not dwell inside the dreaded "box."

onward and upward!

Thank You All Soooo Much!

With my past experiences with Dumb & Stupid docs  I am still a bit causious. I do like the fact that she did not talk to for 5 mins then give me some B.S dx.

I hope we all get the much deserved answers we are looking for. We have all been drug through the mud for long enough....

Hugs and Kisses....Theresa

Have a Happy New Year!!!!!
Don't get too drunk and take your tops off!!!!! LOL

Hi Theresa well it sounded really positive.

Women do seem to take us more seriously then men doctors I have found overall.

So you are having a LP and from the results you will know what route you are taking.

Its very interesting about the pregnancy thing I shall be interested in what they come up with in that regard.

I worried about you today and thought oh dear I hope she doesnt get upset and I am so pleased you came back positive.

Let us hope that 2010 is good for all of us.

Big and huge hugs. Mariax.....xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I'm so glad it went so well.  I'm praying you find your answers soon.

Like I said, I live pretty near this office, so if I am unable to find anwers with my current neuro, perhaps I'll look into getting an appt there as well.

Hey, that's good news, Theresa!

You can eat what you want, be as active as you like and take lots of lovely showers!

This neuro sounds like a great woman. A doc with an inquiring mind - I wish one on all of us!

Yes, I can see how you must be feeling over the moon.

Have to say though, that I'm very very wary of the migraine route. Been there, done that, got totally hoodwinked by lazy docs - migraine is cheapest to treat and easiest to ignore medically. It's an overused dx.

Please do remember that it is a diagnosis of exclusion: EVERY other possibility must be ruled out first.

That said, I'm so happy for you that you've found a neuro who's on the ball!
