HPV Concerns

This is my second entry...unsure why it did not get posted as a question or how on this site ansers or responses are retrieved. I was asked whether or not a spouse of an infected spouse who is undergoing treatment for SCC of the tongue base whose biopsies showed strong evidence of the HPV virus should be innoculated against the virus and what precautions other than annual pap smears should she take? Both are in their mid-late 50's. As an RN I would like to advise my friend appropriately as she indicates that no one seems to have the answers for her.

Hi there,
I have a vague recollection of responding to this question  last night as I scrolled throught 'questions I might be able to answer' on my page:).

The woman is beyond the age for HPV vaccine.  My oncologist recommends.  I don't engage in debates on this.

I have HPV/was never tested, but it is generally believed this is the virus that caused anal cancer in 2007.

Believe you friend will benefit from an exam and pap smear.  She needs a chance to talk her fears over with a doctor.

I'm sorry the first time you posted this question it did not get answered. Sometimes these forums are so busy a question can get pushed to the next page very fast.
I would say only a Dr can answer this question about the spouse being inoculated and if this would help.
I think I have read if a woman has HPV they should have a pap smear every 6 months to make sure it is not turning in to cancer.
