Probability of conception

Probability of conception

Hello all,

I recently had unprotected sex with a girl who I have known for along time, and trust. My concern is the probability of pregnacy, I practiced the "pull out method" so did not ejaculate inside her but I realise that this is not the most desirable form of preventing preganancy. She stated that she was on the pill which eases my concerns but I would still like some clarification on the probabilities and effectiveness of these combined acts.

Thanks for any help/advice offered.

If she's on the pill and using it correctly (not missing days), then it won't matter whether you pull out or not - she won't get pregnant. Next to abstinence, the pill is the most effective method of birth control out there.

Thanks for your comment, I'm not all that familiar on the technicalities of the pill, so lets propose the situation that the dosage was intermittent? what then would be the case? Is it even possible to begin using the pill after unprotected sex as a method of prevention?

Again thanks for your help.

I'm not sure what you mean by intermittent - it can't jut be taken on a whim. The pill has to be taken once a day, for 3 weeks at a time (the 4th week being when a girl menstruates). If a day is missed, the effectiveness of the pill is reduced. When that happens, the girl should insist on condoms to keep the risk of pregnancy low. If she is responsible and does not miss a day, then she doesn't need to worry about condoms for risk of pregnancy (however, risk of STDs would be where condoms come in).

No, it will not work if you start using the pill after unprotected sex.

If she's on the pill and you pulled out, I still think your chances of getting her pregnant are very low. Your best bet for alleviating your concerns would be to talk to her and reassure yourself that she is using the pill properly.

I will just add further to what the other poster stated, in order for her to get pregnant as well, she would also need to be ovulating, which is roughly 14 days before her next menstrual cycle.
