Profuse Bleeding from Penis

During sex my husband began to bleed profusely from his penis.  We are not talking about minor blood, but a steady stream of blood similar to a steady stream of urine.  It occurred while we were having sex, but he didn't even notice it until I felt this stream of liquid on my thighs.  He bleed all over the bed and went into the bathtub to put cold water on himself.  We called an ambulance and the paramedics said they had never seen anything like this before because of the huge amount of blood.  The bleeding only stopped after about ten minutes.  My husband pinched off the flow of blood by pinching his penis.  Every time he let go of the penis for about ten minutes, the steady stream of blood continued.  We ended up in the ER and the doctor let us go after about three hours of no bleeding.  From my research, this was not a fracture because there was no swelling or pain.  The amount of blood is my huge concern.  After 48 hours, I was still discharging blood from the bleeding my husband experienced while we were having sex.  Because there is no swelling, discomfort during urination, and no pain, my husband doesn't want to see a doctor.  Have you heard of such a situation?   If the bleeding hadn't stopped, I believe my husband could have bled to death.  We are worried about a reoccurance and he is afraid to have sex again.  Is it possible to rupture the thin wall inside the urinary tract and have that much bleeding into the tract rather than into the penis itself, making this a break that doesn't have the contained blood?  I don't know what to think or what to encourage my husband to do.  He wants to just pretend it didn't happen at this point.

Thank you.

I can see why this can be of serious concern to you  and your husband, and I don't understand why he wouldn't want to see a physicial or wasn't treated properly at the hospital?  It can be anything from Urinary tract infection, prostate cancer, STD or even kidney problems, but only a physician can properly diagnose and treat his condition.

An erection works by severely limiting the flow of blood out of the penis, while the heart continues to pump blood into it.  Blood pressure builds up, and that's what makes it hard.  So it's not surprising that, if it starts bleeding, it will bleed profusely, even from a minor cut or damage.

I have no idea what could have caused this.  I'm surprised the hospital didn't do more to find out the cause, rather than just treat the symptom, or at least recommend you husband to go and see someone to investigate.

I have no idea what caused this, but if it were me I, too, would be worried about it happening again, and I really think he needs to talk to a doctor about it.

Is he circumsized? If not, the skin may have been pulled back too far, which can cause it to bleed as bad as you described.

what ever happened with your husband?  I had a similar thing happen to me.  It is not a fracture, but blood comes shooting out of my penis after I had rough sex with my girl friend.

Untreated ,prolonged STD causing inner vascular erosion. Very bad. STD clinic and urologist, then if negative, less likely invasive cancers, or other miscellaneous issue a urologist can see with a scope
