a lot of blood after intercourse?

My boyfriend and I were having intercourse one night with the lights off. Once we were finished and the lights came back on there was blood everywhere. I still had another week before I started my period, I am on the pill so I knew I couldn't start early. We checked each other for cuts and such but there was nothing. I went to use the restroom and when I wiped there was no blood coming from the inside of me. However, the next day when I wiped I was spotting. What can cause this?
