How bad is losing your virginity supposed to hurt?

Im 16 and my boyfriend and I have been trying to lose our virginity, but everytime he tries to enter I feel a huge pain. Everyone I know says it doesn’t hurt much, but everytime me and my boyfriend tried, I was wet, relaxed, and aroused but it was just an unbearable pain and he never got far. A few days after the last time we tried I still felt sore even though less than his tip went in. Is there a way to make this less painful?

Kat,
The above answer is very professional and practical. Please consult a doctor if pain is persistent.

I don't really know what to tell you.  I don't think that kind of pain is normal.  That's not what they talk about for pain during losing one's virginity.  That pain is typically more associated with the breaking of the hymen within.  I know you *think* you are aroused, wet and relaxed but you may not really be.  There is something called vaginismus where muscles of the pelvic floor spasm and tighten or it can be something called vulvadynia which causes shooting pain.  Both fall under the category of sexual dysfunction.  And sexual dysfunction can often be psychological in nature.  Have you ever been abused?  (you don't have to answer here).

While it may be uncomfortable during the first few times you have sex, you describe absolute pain.  If it continues, you should talk to your doctor.  And please, always use a condom.  good luck
