irritated clitoris

ok so couple months ago i went to bed without taking a shower..lol i was really stressed out from school and when i got home i just dived into bed..woke up in tha middle of the night feeling irritated..so i went to take a shower and went back to bed...during the course of tht week i realised i was getting a yeast infection..but my clit was really irritated and red..it was kinda itchy but i thought it was cause of the yeast infection..but *sigh* the yeast infection went away but the itchy irritation stayed..i was sexually active at the time not too often though and always used a condom(durex:fuego) but that never happened when i had sex b4.I noticed the irritation is only AFTER i bathe but thn fades away..sigh its really annoying and disappears with my period..dont think its an infection cus thre's no change in the smell or color of my vaginal discharge :S! could it be tha liners im wearing?..or an allergic reaction to that condom i used? is my soap too strong fuh me?

Hi.

The answer is yes.

Yes, you may be allergic to the condoms you're using.

Yes, you may be allergic to the panty liners you're wearing. Many of them contain perfumes. See below.

And most emphatically, yes, you may be allergic to the soap you're using. Let me explain: most soaps contain perfume. And what does perfume contain? Alcohol. Think about it: what does alcohol do to delicate tissue? Dries it up, irritates it and robs it of its natural protection against irritating factors.

You should NEVER use perfumed soap on any part of your vulva for this very reason. In fact, you needn't use any soap at all for washing your crotch. Plain warm water is just fine.

Make these changes, and if you're still having pain, etc., see your gynecologist to determine the best treatment. Good luck to you. Dr. J
