Some author advised that when you are in a dilemma, think what your mother would like you to do. Or one can think what his/her mentor would like him/her to do. With this questioning, one is likely to do the right thing
Interesting....good points too. This is a good subject to look more into. Coming from a Christian perspective, discernment was seen as a gift and being necessary.
When one says, they discern the times or test the spirits (discerning whether they are of God or not).....these are seen through the lens of having the Holy Spirit to teach/guide/lead/tell one the right things.
I think of judging as pronouncing a verdict/final determination on something. We are not in possession of being able to say whether someone is going to end up here or there without proper knowledge.
I was thinking about this subject when I thought about what I need to know to survive and do things well....what to avoid taking on or doing ......who I pick for friends, etc. I wondered what others thought directs them in their choices of similar things.
I look forward to more discussion on this subject and others.
Merry Christmas to everyone :-))))))))))))))
It is important that we judge things properly, or discern. If a person with appendicitis is diagnosed as having an ulcer, it may seem a mere matter of terminology, but if judged improperly, treatment could lead to death! If a baby has a fever, you wouldn't put it in the freezer to cool it down. Treating the symptom may make the problem worse! Discernment by outward appearances, out of ignorance, confusing cause and effect, symptom with problem, can be devastating--even with the best of intents
discernment sees with an open mind; being judgmental sees with preconceived notions.
