panic and sleep problems

by mikey26uk, Oct 30, 2007 08:09AM
I have suffered from panic attacks for a couple of years now although i am confident and should be happy as everything is ok. I can never seem to rest my mind constantly worrying, i kind of get sick of hearing myself! I used to party quite alot and was fine but now if i drink a lot of alchol the next day I am a nervous wreck, i seem to twitch alot and i can be short breathed all day and totally spaced out . this is really starting to get me down, however much you try and tell yourself its just anxiety, it dosnt seem to work. I also on the odd ocasion especially in summer had sleep problems, i feel like im awke but i cant move or wake up properly then my heart begins to race and my breathing becomes arkward and i feel like im dying. To be honest that has to be the scariest experince ever . Does any one know what this is?

I have suffered from anxiety/panic attacks for nearly 10 years.  The main thing you need to realize is that nothing TERRIBLE is going to happen to you.  Although at times you feel as if your heart is going to beat out of your chest, it's not going to happen.  At times you feel you are going to pass out, it's most likely not going to happen.  And when you're having a severe panic attack you feel like you are going to die, it's NOT going to happen.  I personally find that music relaxes me when I am feeling anxious/overwhelmed.  The world is a crazy place and I personally believe this is the reason so many people suffer from panic attacks.  Just try to take it easy, relax more often, surround yourself with positive influences.  I too love to party and find myself panicky the next day because well hangovers don't feel very good.  Not to anyone at all.  So try to focus on happier things in your life.  Keep a journal, and everytime you experience a panic attack write your symptoms.  The next time you panic most likely your symptoms are the same.  Now just imagine a week or even a month has passed and everyday it's the same thing.  You are still alive and well.  It will get easier as time goes on.  You just need to realize, you are not alone, there's so many of us that suffer and others that don't even now why they feel the way they do.  I hope I have helped even the slightest.  Take care and one love!
