Stroke caused by Birth Control?

Has anyone experienced, or is related to anyone who has experienced a stroke they think may be caused by birth control?

I ask as my wife Monique was switched to Seasonique by her obgyn in August 2011 and had a major stroke September 3, 2011.

I wasn’t convinced the birth control was responsible but we’ve had many tests done all of which are inconclusive. I am now convinced that Seasonique is the source of the stroke. She did have extensive blood testing performed which came back negative so, unlike Carmen Messina (see this article http://www.womensadventuremagazine.com/issues/summer-2011/aspire-summer-2011/risky-business/) , Monique does not have the clotting mutation. Monique is also exhibiting another side affect of Seasonique, extreme hair loss.

My wife is in perfect health, watches her diet and has been exercising for years. In fact, for the 5 months before her stroke she had been exercising 2 hours a day 5 days a week with noticeable results.

I’ve started my research on Seasonique and have found this forum and thought I would share this information. I’d strongly recommend women thoroughly research their birth control options and consider the risks.

Dear friend,
my wife also had a mild stroke due to birth control pill (it is confirmed).
I wanted to know whether it can happen again (after discontinuation of pills) or she will be okay ... I don't want to lose her and want to know the chances of recurrence of stroke if it does... there are different views but i asked specifically bcoz my wife is also affected due to the same (birth control pills)... please guide me what can happen ...
thanks

Hi Yvette,

Sorry it took this long to reply, I didn't see your reply as I hadn't added this to my watch list.  I hope you are doing ok.

My wife was in perfect health, non smoker with no heart problems and no blood pressure problems.  The stroke is directly related to Seasonique (birth control pill).

Thank you for your kind thoughts for my wife.

I'm so sorry to hear about your wife Monique. About 25 years ago, I started taking birth control pills; my internist okayed them for me, even though I had been diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse w/in the past 5 years and 10 years before that, had been told I had mild pulmonary stenosis (heart catherization at 15, later told by cardiologists that new technology refuted  diagnosis). Started them in May--can't remember type anymore;  Ortho Novum 21 or something. Had to switch which pill I was taking to a stronger one due to "break-through bleeding." At end of Oct. (about 5 or 6 months after starting BC control pills), had what the doctors said was a TIA (mini-stroke). Cardiologist then told me he'd advise I get off birth control pills and not ever go on them again. Did your wife have any mitral valve problems before? How was her blood pressure? Had a friend (healthy, young early 30s) who had a small stroke while doing neck stretching after exercise; I believe she was on birth control pills at the time as well.
