Stroke

My Wife suffered two strokes. She was on a ventilator for a little while until she was weaned off of it. She can breathe without the ventilator, but she's still in a coma she's been in a coma for 18 days. Can someone please tell me the prognosis of someone that stays in a coma for a long time..

My sister was still comatose 3 weeks after an AVM bleed yet pupils starting to react at Good Sam Stroke center in Los Gatos. Then they transferred her to Kindred San Leandro and she went downhill from there. 4 days later she had a heart attack. She lost the improvements. No more tickle reflex, swallowing, breathing on her own, last night they stopped the feeding since she stopped assimilating the "food" in PEG. What if they had not transferred her? Was it the transfer that ruined Karyn? or was it the care at Kindred? I know hospitals have their standard procedures. I'm thankful they could keep he alive for us those extra weeks. Was it the tongue sore that caused the Trach & PEG at GSH? They probably moved her to a cheaper hospital since she was on MediCal. Was it the antibiotics at Kindred that caused the heart attack? Is the future of death lying on a bed with tubes stuck in you?

Hi, its difficult to tell the exact prognosis. As the post stroke swelling subsides she may recover function. But now all depends on if her vitals are stable or not. As she is improving and if the "stroke" is stabilized, and there is no further bleeding or clotting I would remain optimistic. Regards.
