massive stroke middle of brain

Hi everyone.  I need advise quick please.  Mum's had a massive stroke in middle of brain.  Medical staff are not hopeful for her.  Mum was opening her eyes, grabbing for people's hands etc last night.  Today she's just sleeping.  We don't know whether to let her stop suffering or to keep trying to help her.  She never wanted to be hooked up to a machine or be a vegetable in a nursing home and neither an old folks home.  Thanks in advance  Di

Mum passed away Saturday. :(  it was REALLY heartbreaking!  To watch her like that for over a week was horrible!  Mum was in a coma, laboured breathing & things went even worse, which I don't want to say about.  Love you Mum <3.  Another lady didn't make it either.  Yet one lady & man made it.  So, if anyone keeps falling over, it could be a sign of a stroke.  Thanks for caring & best of luck with people you know

Hi, meant to add that when my sister did wake up she was not responsive to anything, would just stare straight ahead, one day she turned her head to one side and seemed to be able to hear noises, then seemed to have recogniton of a family member, it's a slow process, after about 5 weeks she started to swallow by herself, se was incontinent but is now ok, mentally it's going to be a long road, just wanted to let you know it all takes time, take care.

Hello,
I'm very sorry to hear about your mum, I know how painful this is for you. not sure when your mum had her stroke.

If I can tell you about my sister....she had 2 massive strokes over 2 months ago, she was unconscious for 6 days, the Dr's were not hopeful at all, waiting for her to wake up was agony, dr's said the same thing that they were not hopeful, coming on here and other stroke sites, this seems to be common where dr's say this, I was advised that the sleeping is normal, your mum's brain has been through so much, it's going to take time and never, ever give up.

I know I just wanted my sister to wake up and walk right out of that hospital but it all takes time, I know how hard it this is for you but don't ever give up, ask many, many questions, ask to look at the brain scans, ask, ask, ask until you understand everything, I think the dr's just don't know exactly what's going to happen, my sister was not supposed to survive the first night but she did, she still very ill but she's here.

Read as much as you can about strokes, I went on every stroke forum I could find, it really helps.
Take care and good luck....don't give up! and don't make any decisions until you are absolutely sure and research everything for yourself.
