tooth extraction

by vannde, Dec 19, 2008 09:06PM
I had 2 upper teeth pulled 2 weeks ago. I had an infection going on. 1 tooth was broken in half wth a cap on it and the other was to brittle from the root canal it had to repeat another root cancal so they said to pull it. I have one molar in the back left and the area right next to the very front left tooth has whats left of a root canal I guess. In an xray it looks like a post is in my gum but I believe it is the root of my tooth. I asked why it was still there when there is no tooth and my dentist said there is no infection there so it is fine. Now that it has been two weeks I have sweeling over the area of the remaing root area, very sore above it on the side of my nose and I can taste a bad taste. I can't help thinking that this has nothing to do with the 2 they pulled and that there is a problem with the left over root in my gum. the gum is still swollen where they pulled the other teeth and there is a little bit of drainage now and then when I use the partial which puts pressure on it. Should I be concerned with the left over root and the fact there is still swelling and bad taste?

your definetly experiencing some form of infection. The doc, may not have spotted it when you went in, due to the early stage, but with the drainage, swelling, and bad breath/taste, those are all definite signs of infection. You will need to be put on antibiotics and until you do the infection will just spread, and could eventually get into your bloodstream and start to affect your entire system and organs. Infections are tricky, and sometimes aren't always spotted, but sounds to me(and I've had my share of alot of infections including oral, just had 17 teeth taken out yesterday myself, and am on atibiotics right now, b/c a week ago I happened to slip with a pot of boiling water, and got second and third degree burns on my arm that ended up getting infected b/c they had to on one of my many trips back to the er, drain a blister that was pus filled and the size of a water balloon. So, I am very experienced with getting infections and noticing the signs, that's just one situation, I have been hospitalized for many, so I think your best bet is to go see your doc, if he doesn't see it still, atleast get a second opinion. You need to do it soon, the sooner you start the antibiotics, the better. Hope I have helped, and that you get to feeling better soon. W/in 48 hrs. of taking the antibiotics your symptoms should begin to subside, and you will start feeling better overall!Just make sure you continue the entire antibiotic  therapy, even if you start to feel better, or the infection will return!BEST OF LUCK!
