Burning/numbness sensations throughout my body

I have had a burning/numbness sensation in my knees, shoulders, backs of arms, and other places throughout my body for a few months now. It started when I went through an extreme case of anxiety. It was suggested that the anxiety was thyroid related but my tests seem "normal". The anxiety is pretty much gone so I don't know if these sensations are related to the anxiety or not. Or maybe thyroid? It has me worried. Some days are worse than others. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks!

I have recently been diagnosed with hypothyroid. I fall into the category of people who are told by their physician that they are "normal."  I began taking 1/2 grain of Thyroid USP two days ago. I am concerned already about the feeling of tingling throughout my body, almost like a Niacin rush.  Is this normal?  My pulse is good, although last night I woke up to muscle cramps in my left calf and the feeling of being light headed. I'm just hoping that it's my body adjusting to being normal for a change.

Are these just common side effects that take some getting used to?
Thanks!

Hi, I have Hashimoto's an auto immune type of thyroid disease.  Have you been treated for a thyroid disorder in the past is that why your doctor suggested that you get tested?  Are you on medication for thyroid?  Well I too, have burning and tingling sensations throughout my body, I generally however get it in my arms and hands.  I noticed that I got these sensations after I started taking my Synthroid for my thyroid, so it might just be a side effect to that.  I must also tell you, that I too am in the process of having tests done to find out if I may also be suffering from an adrenal dysfunction as well.  This is what came to mind when you mentioned that your had suffered an extreme amount of anxiety.  I too, in the beginning had anxiety attacks, and heart palpitations and such, but like I mentioned it may be thyroid and it may be this adrenal syndrome.  If the test your dr. took for thyroid came back normal, ask to have a thyroid antibody test taken.  This is what helps to diagnose Hashimoto's.  I too, had a normal thyroid TSH test, but was positive for the auto antibodies, so this confirmed that I did indeed have a thyroid problem.  Dr's don't generally check for this you might ask them to do so.  YOu mentioned your test was normal, if you don't mind me asking what was your TSH?  Sometimes also, dr's aren't up to date on the optimal range for thyroid patients. let us know your lab results so that we can better see, what's going on and maybe we might have some more concrete advice.  Good luck.  I hope this helps.  Shannon
