Can't handle heat

I really believe my thyroid is overactive, but recent test (T-3 & T-4) results say I'm fine.  It's been a couple of years now that  I feel like I'm in a furnace all the time.  Can't handle temps. over 70 degrees.  also, have lost a lot of weight while eating anything I want.  no diets.  have trouble sleeping and i'm irritable.  I'm 63 (next week) and doctors always say the heat problem is hormonal.  i don't believe it's just that.  i'm so frustrated.  what can I do?

I would do another test just to make sure. Get FT3 and FT4, and TSH, and find out  your test numbers and the ranges too. If blood test is not easy to get,  One other simple DIY test is measure your body temperature, not  very accurate, but for some people, it can indicate something.  especially, (this may be later) if you compare your blood test results and your body temperatures, show them side by side. after a while, you will see how they relate to each other. once you get that picture, the body temperature will be an indicator you can get quick and easy.  Usually, below 98 degree is Hypo, between 98 and 98.6 is normal, above 98.6, you are hyper. of course, this is in general, every one is a little different. you need to find out your numbers.... good luck.

I think it would be worth your while to get a second opinion. You might be sub-clinical hyper. Do you really KNOW what your numbers are, did the doctor actually give you the test results? See where you are in the range, in the higher range or in the middle? Even when my free t-3 was not out of range but at the top of the range, I felt hyper. Some docs won't treat unless you are OUT of the range, some will.

If thyroid labs, including TSH, are normal -- it's not likely your thyroid.  Temperature intolerance is very difficult and quite often the answer is elusive.

Just for your information, do a search on 'thyroid temperature' on internet, you will find a lot of information about the relation between thyroid and body temperature.

Thank you for the information.  I never actually saw the test results and the doctor never told me the numbers.  I'll start checking my temp. too.  I'll do more tests with another doc.  thanks so much.
