I am about 17 and 1/2 weeks pregnant and just found out that my thyroid levels are elevated. Not sure how bad any of this is, was tested last week and the TSH was .03, on Friday it was .07. Normal T4 was .97, but the T3 was 285. I know the levels are different when preg, wondering how bad this is, have not been to see the specialist yet...have really bad sweats, headaches, and I actually have bad pitting edema in shin feet and ankles (usually non pitting) also overweight not under...any advice?

Hi, i'm sorry about the blood clot, and that they can't do anything, that has to be very frustrating for you.  does the dr, give you something so that you don't have migaraines as much?  Sounds like that causes you a problem.  I am hypo, I have Hashimoto's, so I have the auto immune kind with the antibodies, so it's is getting killed off more and more as we go.  I believe the same as jimlow, that just having the antibodies present, creates symptoms of their own.  Yes, my neck pops, all the time, so do my fingers and knees and back.  whenever I roll over in bed at night, it wakes, me up, and i'm just popping all over the place, it doesn't hurt, but irritating, and makes me wonder what kind of damage something like that can do over time, I wouldn't think that it is good.  Now the joint pain, I feel is the meds, because I had a lot of symptoms when I was dx'd, and never had any joint problems what so ever, until I started my synthroid.  I'm considered hypo, but I often have heart palps and chest pain and other things not asscociated with Hypothyroidism at all.  I had the MRI of my pituitary that came back normal.  They started and still do tests to check my adrenal function, and those tests are now coming out normal.  I go to my gyno next month to check all that.  I guess if everything keeps coming back fine, I will just have to be forced to believe that my thyroid really can in fact mess me up this much and get use to feeling terrible.   Have you ever had any adreanl tests or anything like that?  So many of those endocrine problems can be linked together, and yes, that can really cause you alot of problems than.  I check the web alot, and Jimlow gave me a heads up, as well as dr mark on here, that PCOS, might be a possibility, when looking at the symptoms, I have them all, I want to rule that out.  The only thing is, for the most part, all menstrual stuff is normal, maybe not the bleeding, always very heavy, but as far as time and having one each month,  There are so many hormone things, and when just one goes out of whack you end up a complete mess.  With my normal thyroid based symptoms, I get hot, and cold flashes, alot of headaches, and when I was diagnosed, my breasts became very sore, and engorged, I just cannot see how my thyroid could have been to blame for all of this as well, I'm not seeing the correlation.  I was put on meds for my thyroid right away, and although my thyroid has been in the normal range for a year now, I never feel well, so I hope there is something else that is being missed.  I stopped taking some beta blockers a few weeks ago, and felt great for a while, I thought that was the problem all along, but last night started with the heart palps, again, so I took one, those heart things scare me every time.  Post back, let me know how you are doing.  What are you confused on?  I will try to help.  Not too good with labs either, just understand the TSH real well.  I understand hypo and hyper and the auto immune processes, just let me know if there is anything I can help you with, we are all in this together.  Shannon

HI SHANNON,I'M HOPING MED HELP DOESN'T KICK ME OFF ALL THE FORUMS.I REALLY WASN'T SUPPOSE TO DO THAT.TO YOUR QUESTION ABOUT MY BLOOD CLOT ON MY BRAIN,NO THEY CAN'T DO ANY THING ABOUT IT.MY STROKE DID HAPPEN ON THE SIDE WHERE IT IS AT ALL SO.MY BLOOD CLOT IS ON MY LEFT SIDE,THATS WHERE I HAD MY STROKE.JUST ABOUT 10 CM FROM MY BLOOD CLOT TO BE EXACT.THE REASON THEY CAN'T DO ANY THING ABOUT MY BLOOD CLOT IS BECAUSE OF THE LOCATION.THE BLOOD CLOT IS NOT ON THE IN SIDE BUT ON THE OUT SIDE.MY CEREBRAL ARTERY WAS DAMAGED WHEN I WAS A LITTLE GIRL.MY BROTHER HIT ME IN THE HEAD WITH A METAL BAR THAT WAS ABOUT 3 INCHES THICK,IT KNOCKES ME BACKWARDS AND I HIT MY HEAD AGAIN ON THE GROUND.I WAS KNOCKED OUT.INSTEAD OF IT BLEEDING IN IT BLEED OUT.IT STILL BLEEDS,ESPECIALLY WHEN I HAVE MIGRAIN HEADACHES.BECAUSE YOUR BRAIN SWELLS WHEN YOU HAVE MIGRAINS.I DIDN'T KNOW THAT UNTIL MY NEUROLOGIST TOLD ME.SHE SAID WHEN EVER I FEEL A MIGRAIN COMING ON I NEED TO YAKE SOME THING QUICK AND LAY DOWN SO THAT MAY BE IT WILL COUTER ACT AGAINST SOME OF THE SWELLING.DOES YOUR KNECK POP ALOT.I KNOW THAT IS A SILLY QUESTION.BUT MINE DOES,AND I JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF YOURS DID.ARE YOU HYPER OR HYPO?I'M STILL CONFUSED,BUT I STAY CONFUSED NOW.I'LL TALK TO YOU LATER SHANNON,MY HUBBY IS WANTING ME TO COME TO BED.IT'S 12:36A.M. HERE.GOD BLESS YOU AND TAKE CARE OF YOUR SELF.TNT406[BECKY]

hi there, I saw your post to the doc, and I hope that he answers your questions, I know i'm not as much help, but I am so perplexed, most of your labs look pretty normal, and even your antibodies, showed positive, but your number is quite low.  I agree with Jimlow, as you had said, you will need to get that checked again, I would think, that since you were positive for the antibodies, even with a low reading, that number will increase I would think after time.  maybe not, I'm not a doc, but I would think so,  especially something to explain the cysts and such.  Are they not thinking that the blood clot had anything at all to do with your stroke?  I know it is in a different location thank goodness, but I was just wondering.  I'm not familiar with things such as that, is there not anything they can do for you?  How do they correct such a problem, it's hard for me to think that they just leave you that way.  Your cold symptom so much resembles Hypothyroidism, I too, had that problem, but your levels are not pointing that direction.  In fact, i too, am at about a .7 something right now, and almost all my troublesome symptoms are gone, especially hypo stuff like coldness and such.  I get the heart palps and such every now and than. You pituitary has been checked?  I wonder about your one reading that was high, I'm not sure what that means, but would be intrested myself when you find out.  hang in there. Shannon

Hi there TNT, I know you've been on this forum for quite some time, and I read your posts, but am trying to remember your story.  I feel for you with the hair loss, I have been losing mine, and am  just about bald on the top of my head, it really makes me self conscious.  Forgive me on the meds, I guess, I assumed that since you had your stroke, that they might of had you on some other meds.  What is your blood pressure like?  Besides being cold and such what other symptoms do you have?  You mentioned hurting alot, even before your stroke, I have that also, muscle and joint pain that just never goes away, It is hard to live in pain every day, and as sad as it sounds, we just all kind of get use to it huh?  Sure makes for some bad days though.  If Neurologist is saying thyroid, than what are they doing about it?  Your labs are coming up normal?  didn't you mention before awhile back that you had your thyroid antibodies checked and they came back elevated?  Wasn't that you?  Cysts on your thyroid, isn't tht showing that you are having damage done to it?  It would not surprise me that you might of had a stroke based on a thyroid attack, because last year when I was Dx'd with my hashi's, I too, was on the verge, i just remember sitting on the table at the dr, my heart pounding so hard that it hurt my chest, and I could not feel the whole right side of my body, I will always remember that as long as I live.  Staring over at my husband who was just white as a ghost, I really think we both thought, that was it.  But they controlled my symptoms right away for all the problems I was having and started me on thyroid meds, and I got better, True, I don't think thyroid  patients ever feel normal.  You are right, having your thyroid messed up, just can effect so man;y things in your body.  I never know, sometimes I have real good days and have lots of energy and others, I just can't seem to get out of bed.  I hope that you find your answers soon.  What is your TSH by the way?  I'm confused why they are not treating you, unless they are not sure that the thyroid is the cause?  I have cysts also on my thyroid, from my Hashimoto's, Post back and let me know again what is going on, I think I remember you said that you have the antibodies.  Take care Shannon

Hi there, how are you doing?  I wish I had the answers that you are looking for.  I was totally going on nothing but TSH levels for close to a year, I just now had my T3 and T4 checked by my endo last month.  All I know is I got a letter in the mail that said my T3 and T4 were normal.  I do know that the TSH range is 0.3-3.0, but I was having significant hair loss and my TSH was in normal range and was having terrible symptoms at the same time.  My hair just now has started to grow back, and that is only after getting my TSH down to close to a .7, and also stopping my beta blockers that I was on.  It's just alittle hair growth too, nothing too great, I just haven't had stubble of any kind in years, so it's nice.  I know you haven't had much luck health wise here lately, and i'm sure they probably have you on alot of different meds, could one of them maybe be causing you hair loss symptoms?  the only reason i say that is my thyroid, well TSH was normal for a year and none of my hair grew back, it wasn't until I stopped taking another med, did it start to grow, I always associated it with the thyroid when it was something totally different. I wish I could recall that one website that I found the other day, it listed all medicines that causes hair loss, alot of them, I had no idea, I will look into it again, and post back.  I'm sure I wasn't much help, but maybe something made sense. tAke care. shannon

You may have had a mild hyperthyroid state at least 3 weeks ago which is now resolving.  The INR is normal (this is only used in patients on blood thinners - if not on thinners - nl is 1).  MCHC is ok.  Glucose should be repeated as a fasting value - if still high (100-125) it's pre-diabetes, if >125 worrisome for diabetes.  Would repeat thyroid function in 4 weeks to ensure a full recovery.
