High PTH and FSH

Hello,
I am 35 years old and found out my PTH and FSH numbers are high.  I have an appt for the dr. in 2 weeks but of course I am looking for all kinds of help on the internet.  MY husband I want to start trying to concieve child number 3 but due to my high FSH of 19, the dr. doesnt think it will work without assistance- meds, etc.
Does anyone know if there is a link of hyperparathyroidism and high FSH?

thanks!!

If the calcium and PTH are both high - then this is primary hyperparathyroidism.  There are rare syndromes of pituitary tumors and parathyroid tumors that coexist (MEN syndrome - in this case, MEN 1).  The FSH would be high due to the pituitary problem.  Checking other pituitary hormones would be helpful and consider a pituitary MRI.

However, there could be another explanation.  The PTH could be high due to a vitamin D deficiency (commonly seen in the autoimmune disease called celiac sprue).  One cause of ovarian failure is also autoimmne (these are called polyglandular autoimmune diseases) -- this would cause a high FSH.

Certainly it could be two separate issues....

Seeing an endocrinologist in this case is a good idea.
