Hypo and Graves - Eye Problem

I have Hypothyroid, and so does my mother.  She also has been blessed with graves.  She has had an operation on one of her buldging eyes, and was told she may have to do the other.  She recently had an episode where she thought her glasses where dirty, she took them off and then all of a sudden her eyes balls where buldging out, turning red with buldging viens, watering and she couldn't see (which later she described as seeing double, triple and lack of figures in front of her.  It was all over in a mater of 2 minutes.  She has not called a doctor about it, but I was there and it scared me.  Does anyone have any insite on what happends?  Is it related to the Graves or could it be something more?  Thanks

I've had Graves" for 7 years.  I've had surgery on my eyes.
Graves has three stages but, not everyone gets.
1.  thyroid disorder
2.  bulging eyes/double vision (caused when the muscle around your eyes harden.  This forces your eyes to move and the only way for them to go is forward.  Also causes your eyes to no longer work together therefore causing double vision
3.  thickening of the skin on your shin, similar to elephant skin.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AN EXCELLANT DOCTOR WHO IS EDUCATED ABOUT GRAVES!

Graves disease does affect the eyes, Has she had any further symptoms? Is there a family history of Glaucoma? She should see an ophthamologist, to determine if there is any underlying problem. Also, what kind of operation did she have?
