Hi, I have been asking doctors about my 14 yr old daughter for over a year now. Her thyroid tests have always come back around the 4 mark, and I've described her symptoms numerous times (all of which are atypical for hypo), with the comment "I'd be happy if my child had this level!" Totally patronising and of no help whatsoever. My daughter is now 5'8" tall and weighs 9st2lbs. She put weight on rapidly about a year ago and this caused stretch marks that went purple. She spends most of every day (when she's not been forced to go to school half asleep!) asleep or falling asleep. She has terrible acne, painful heavy irregular periods, freezing hands and feet, excessive intolerance to cold (wears 6 layers to school in summer!), mood swings and depressive episodes and yellowish puffy skin. She is allergic to potatoes and gluten (these causing terribly itchy legs which she feels compelled to dig at with something sharp!). I'm tired of it all as I have been hypo since I was 26 years old and am now 44. The menopause is causing my thyroid no end of problems and I can relate to how my poor daughter feels. What do I do?? :-( x
