Was first diagnosed with hypothyroidism 50 years ago. Took cytomel. Over the years was diagnose spasmodically with same. Never on medication. Diagnosed 3 years ago again and put on levothyroxine 50 mcg a day. New doctor tested thyroid TSH 3.79 and FT4 0.82. Says I in normal range. Also will have CT scan on lump on left side of neck. Have nearly all symptoms of low thyroid. What should I do now.
A Test was done for antibodies that counteract the thyroid and this test was negative.
Also, I have a Vitamin D deficiency. Symptoms that I am experiencing are fluid retention in my legs & ankles, weight gain, joint pain.
I'm just trying to find an answer to why I am experiencing these symptoms.
I'm not an expert at this stuff but your test results do seem normal. The question here is do you feel ok or do you have bothersome symptoms.
This is normal in general, but in some cases a TSH >3 raises suspicion for autoimmune thyroid disease (hashimoto's). In most cases, treatment is not needed, but in individual situations, it could be tried.
