Thyroid Nodule

Nue
Hi..am 23 years old female, 15 days ago i discovered a nodule on my right lobe, it's 14 mm on ultrasound, i also had the thyroid scaned and it showed that this nodule is a cold nodule..on ultrasound they mentioned that it's a complex nodule of soft tissues.

so i had yesterday a FNA and the result in the report was like this exactelly

Cytological examination of films prepared from aspirate revealed many red cells, colloid material, groups of follicular cells with regular vesicular nuclei and very few lymphocytes, no evidence of cytological malignancy.

Diagnose:

Thyroid gland, fna, cytology, follicular lesion with evidence of recent hemorrhage.

so my question is it cancer or just a tumor, and do i need an operation or i can have medications to treat it, and is it a dangerous case or not, and if i won't have an operation could it be cancer after a while?

Thanks very much

This is a small nodule with a negative biopsy.  Current guidelines do not recommend levothyroxine to "shrink" the nodule unless the labs show a high TSH (hypothyroidism).  Recommend repeat ultrasound in 3-6 months to see if it grows - if so, repeat FNA.  A good biopsy is very accurate.  One consideration would be to have the slides from the FNA sent for expert second opinion, but the description sounds benign.
Surgery is not indicated based on this history.

I am one year out of my Partial Thyroidectomy.  I had a nodule on my left lobe that was cystic and solid and they watched it for a year.  My nodule grew after FNA and they did not like the rate of growth and recommended PARTIAL removal unless it was cancer then they would have removed it all.  My doc did not believe in using meds to help the nodule shrink, but I have some friends that did use meds and the nodule did shrink.

Why do they feel it safter to remove your entire glad?  Is it location? cancer in the family?

I have half a thyroid and I do not need any meds at this time.  They say up to 80 percent of the people who have a partial may not need medication, it just depends on your bloodwork. However, if you remove it all, you must be on the medication for supplement.

Hope this helps

I went to my doctor today and he told me that i'll wait for 3 monthes and then i'll have ultrasound to check the nodule, and he gave me a medicine i think thyroxin or something, he told me that if the nodule got bigger i'll remove the whole thyroid gland as it's much safer so what do u think about that doctor and is it safe to wait for whole 3 monthes?!!!

Thanks very much
