Thyroid and burping!

Hi there,
Does any one else feel like they're loosing the plot somethimes with this bloody 'lump' feeling?!!

My story - It all started last Oct when I kept feeling this 'lump' in my throat and got really bad indigestion.  I found it really hard to swallow, as though foo was getting stuck in my throat. I assumed it was a digestive problem and had lots of gastric tests - endescopy, barium etc. They all came back clear. But then earlier this year they found out that I've got an overactive thyroid. I've bee on Carbizamole for about 4 months, but I've still got this constant ' apple' stuck in throat' feeling and I'm constantly trying to 'burp' it up!!! I gets worse after I eat (especially stodgy food) but isn't too bad whilst actually eating.

I've got a thyroid scan next week. Is anyone else suffering like me? Any suggestions? Getting very depressed about it all now.

Thanks

Hi, I'm 39 years old and female (and English, although that's probably of no consequence). I have a multinodular goitre and my problems started just under 18 months ago (after the birth of my second child) when I started to feel a lump in my throat. This then progressed to awful stomach pain and nausea which affected me after eating. It took over my life and I felt nervous of going away from home for long periods in case I was ill. I had all the tests too, which came back clear. Anyway, to cut a long story short, back in April of this year, I had an extremely bad virus which saw me bedridden for 2 weeks with stomachache, diarrhoea and sickness (this has never happened to me before) and when I eventually recovered, I discovered a lump in my throat which turned out to be a thyroid cyst. It was also discovered that I have nodules on the other lobe.
I've had it checked out and it's not cancerous, but over here they adopt a 'watch and wait' policy as they don't like to remove benign growths from the thyroid.
No one suggested to me that the lump in my throat and reflux could be connected to my thyroid, but I'm convinced now, looking back that my thyroid disease did somehow upset the balance of my digestive system. My doctor hasn't been particularly helpful and I've done my own research on the internet. Incidentally, since the nodular goitre raised it's horrible head, the lump in my throat and symptoms of indigestion have vanished! Good luck to you in getting your problems sorted.

Thanks for that,

I haven't had my ultra-sound yet so I'm not sure if i've got any nodules on my thyroid. I have been diognosed with an overactive thyroid though. I was on so many different meds for gastric reflux but none worked so I'm not sure I've even got that! I do suffer from heartburn, and terrible indigestion and taste food at the back of my throat long after i've eaten. I've seen so many Dr's now that I'm not sure they evn know what to do with me!! I may have thyroid disease AND gastric reflux but no Dr's are telling me this!! Should I be on my proton pump inhibitors (gastric meds) and thyroid meds?!! Ahhh!! Soooo frustrating! I wish someone would tell me what's going on!

It's great that we can all have a moan on this site tho - at least we're not alone.

Take care and keep in touch x

Yep, I have the same symptons as you. My ultrasound showed my thyroid to be small with no nodules. I was Hyper because of being overmedicated(meds now lowered) however I'm actually Hypo. I have had x-rays blood work and the lump is still there. Recent diagnosis was acid reflux and aniexty.
Have you been diagnosed with thyroid disease? This could also be muscle spasm's in the neck like I've been told -Cricopharyngeal spasm this has the same symptoms that we have. I'll keep you posted to let you know if I get a diagnosis that is right.Right now the Dr doesn't even feel this lump has anything to do with my thyroid!

Doctor say you have hyperthyroid, but did they find any nodules on your thyroid-ultrasound? because although I am not hyper or hypo I have a large mass on my left side. And had simalar symptoms. That I really didnt untill now   relate to my thyroid mine was a little farther down, It felt like I had a bubble or marble stuck. It was pain ful and I had to often try and make myself burp most of the time with no sucess it would last a couple of weeks and go away just to come back. I went to hospital because of it once cause I was having a hard time taking a deep breath an they said it was digestive gave me some medicide and sent me home. It has not returned in some time. please keep me informed about what you discover and best of luck to you.
