I got my results back and my levels are perfect not on the high or low side. I feel many symptoms of hypothyroidism, and my doctor is sending me to get an ultrasound of my thyroid because it is enlarged. Why would it be enlarged if my tests are perfect?
Enarged thyroid can happen with normal labs. Most people with nodules have normal labs. Ultrasound is the best way to evaluate an enlarged thyroid for nodules and to measure to see the extent of the enlargement. Sometimes the neck feels like there is an enlarged thyroid, but it's really not -- ultrasound can confirm this as well.
