Thyroiditis

dx with hashimoto thyroiditis. Tsh 0.0. Free t4 2.02, free t3 6.7. TPO Ab 73.7.   Iodine uptake 0.8. On low iodine diet   U/s shows lg goiter 6.7 cm each side. .8 mm b/t.  Tachycardia, palps, Sl difficulty swallowing, fatigue, forgetful, hair loss, itchy skin. Endo says try tapazole and atenolol.  Will this work with no uptake?  Still need surgery?

Tapazole does not work for thyroiditis.  The atenolol is appropriate.
The low uptake on I-123 is consistent with silent thyroiditis (autoimmune, + TPO).
Time is the only treatment, meanwhile use atenolol for the tachycardia and follow thyroid labs about every 4 weeks to see pattern.

Also only 1 small nodule on us 0.6 cm.  No thyroid showed on scan with rai.  I have never taken any thyroid meds. Cutting out sinus meds and caffeine. Had bad leg aches while limiting iodine for a week. Seems odd. Not as bad now. How risky is tapazole
