medication

You have already told me that medications for my levels aren't absolutely necessary. If I do decide to continue the synthroid 25mg as prescribed by my Dr. what are the  pros vs. cons? Will I become dependent the rest of my life? How will it effect my metabolism? What do you think about thyrostim as an alternative? Thank you for your time.

When I first started medication for mild hypo two years ago, I was only taking 25 mcg a day.  It made a HUGE difference for me!  The deep, dull joint pain I was experiencing for at least 4 yrs prior practically disappeared after only 3 days on that low dose of replacement hormone. (The joint pain has never returned either.  Plus, I am not having to live on pain pills like I was beforehand.)  I realize that this won't happen for everyone.   I was VERY lucky - (1st) to have a doctor who was willing to treat me for mild hypo, and (2nd) that the medication worked so well.

You won't be dependent on it.
There is not really much risk if the levels are okay - except having to pay for and take a medication every day that may be of no benefit.
Would not use thyrostim or other "thyroid support" supplements --- no good data to support this approach.
