thyroid ultrasound report

i had a ultrasound on my thyroid and im not understanding the report and my doctor didnt explain it well to me it reported that there is a large heterogeneously echogenic mass which appears to be predominantly solid and demostrates fairly substantial vascularity on color flow doppler ultrasound. it measures about 1.9x2.2x3.1 cm in dimension.

Impression: Vascular heterogeneously echogenic predominantly solid appearing mass in the right lobe of the thyroid.

can you tell me what this means

You should see a thyroid (endocrinologist) expert who does their own ultrasounds.  A biopsy is ultimately likely needed.  The I-123 scan is not likely to add much -- even if "normal" would recommend pursuing further evaluation by a specialist.

This needs to have a biopsy.  90% of nodules are benign, but most nodules >1cm needs biopsy, particulary with the increase vascularity (blood flow).  I-123 nuclear scanning is NOT indicated (unless the TSH blood test is low).
