thyroidectomy and weight gain

Ihave a very big goiter in 1998 it weighed 80 grams.  It bothers me and I also gained alot of weight over the past years. I grew up very thin and Im not sure if it is the thyroid that is causing this.  My blood work comes out fine however by uptake are either elevated at one time or under another.  Im an going for thyroidectomy but am afraid I will gain even more weight can anyone share their experience with me.

i had a total thyroidectomy a year ago . Weight gained during RAI then with medication it stabilized after a year of regulation

With a normal thyroid lab, unlikely the thyroid is contributing to weight at this point.  After surgery, medications will keep thyroid regulated and should not significantly effect weight.  Most weight gain is a simple issue of taking in more calories than we burn off.

I'm experiencing the same symptoms as you. My blood work is normal but I have alot of the signs of Hypothyroidism. I'm scheduled for a thyroidectomy on Nov 8th. I hope and pray that this will help my current situation. I pray all goes well with your surgery and you also find relief afterwards.
