This question highlights common lab abnormalities in patients who are taking desiccated thyroid hormone. I typically do not use these medications in my practice, however the free T4 is often in the slightly low or low normal range as the pig thyroid is different from the human thyroid (containing more T3 and less T4 than human thyroid), therefore the human reference range for T4 often reflects a low T4 in patients taking desiccated pig thyroid. This does not mean that additional T4 should be given. TSH remains the single best reflection of thyroid balance and in this case for TSH of 0.9 is appropriate.
My apologies. New to this community and thyroid disease.
no ill have to look it up. I went to the Dr. today and she wants me to decrease the t3 things its too high, wants too maybe try to get some t4 in my system. The ears rung very bad today. sucked.
have you considered taking L-tyrosine.
i think for those of us allergic to synthetics -- that may be the last resort.
good luck to you bruce.
i'm on day 2 of the lowest possible dosage of the hypoallergenic levo. will keep you posted if i get the ear problems again.
I tried taking just T4, but it made my ears ring really really bad. I don't know why. Synthetics didn't go over very well with me. Maybe i just can't tolerate the synthetics.
by the way -- at the present time i am on a hypoallergenic form of levothyroixine and i still have ear issues.
good luck to you.
i discovered that i was allergic to pork by taking naturethroid.
lots of times people don't need additional t3 [which is what is found in armour thyroid and in naturethroid] but only t4.
many doctors just don't want to prescribe armour thyroiod or naturethroid. conversely, some doctors do.
blessings to all.
You might get better results if you started your own thread instead of adding on to a thread that i have already started.
DR. LUPO - my question -
I am curious to know why you do not use these medications in your practice? Do you ever use them when people are intolerant of straight synthetics?
I would take synthetic if i could tolerate it, but I am curious to know your opinion
thank you,
bruce
I believe I have Hashimoto's as well as Graves based on my last lab reports.
TSI 226
TPO 589
TgAB 257
TSH 1.07 (after being .011 for 4 months on Synthroid) Originally it was at 5.05 and my TPO was 39 before starting Synthroid in April 2011
T4 1.1 (0.8 - 1.8)
T3 87 (76 - 181)
My symptoms go from hyper to hypo and it so hard to bear. What can I do to get my thyroid stabilized? What are my options? I want to be able to function and at least go back to work.

I tried t4 only but it made my ears ring so bad I could hardly stand it. I was going to request some t4 but now after reading this i may stand where i am and hold.
