Sonography of the Thyroid Gland.
Both thyroid lobes appear borderline enlarged.
within the posterior central lower pole of the left thyroid lobe, there is 2.0 x 1.4 x 1.1 cm well demarcated hypoechoic solid nodule.
just superior to this, within the central left lobe, there is a 1.8x1.6x1.4 cm solid nodule.
within the upper pole of the left lobe, there is a 7.2x6.5x6.3 mm similar solid nodule.
within the lower pole of the right thyroid lobe there is 3 adjacent colloid cysts, measuring 7.3x6.7x6.1 mm within the lower pole, 9.8x6.3x6.3 mm within the central lower pole, and 6.8x6.0x3.9 mm within the inferior midportion of the right lobe.
The echotexture wihtin the remainder is unremarkable and the thyroid isthmus measures 3.0mm (normal range)
Just had my TSH blood work today so I don't know what that is.
I have an appointment with a Endo on the 31st of may.
My family doc that found this wants surgery biopsy not a FNA.
I have gained weight, have a tickle with a dry cough all the time (thought it was from my sinus allergies), menstrual cycle way out of wack, Do these symptoms have anything to do with my thyroid nodules?
When I go to the Endo, should I get surgery or FNA?
Thank you
My ultrasound was done on 21 Mar 2011. Findings are as follows: right lobe enlarged with homogeneous echotexture measuring 5.4x2.5x1.6 cm. There is an 8 mmcomplex nodule at the lower lobe. There are also two other hypoechic nodules at the lower lobe measuring 4 mm each.In addition there is a 5 mm cyst at the lower lobe.
I went to an endocrinologist today, 15 Apr 2011, and he says there is no enlargement just from feeling of my throat. If he doesn't agree with the ultrasound findings; who do I see next?
I am booked in to see a doctor, BUT-I am really in some discomfort!!
I am finding it really hard to swallow & was wondering if there is anything I can take which would make it more comfortable to deal with...Please help!
This is most consistent with autoimmune thyroid disease with diffuse enlargement (in this case right > left) of the thyroid and thickening of the isthmus and small "nodules" that are more likely inflammation than true nodules. Would correlate with TSH and TPO antibodies to confirm probable diagnosis of Hashimoto;s thyroiditis.
