Hyperthyroidism and swollen neck (left side).

I'm 19 years old and was recently (last month) diagnosed with hyperthyroidism...and my doctor prescribed me levoxyl. This week I have noticed the left side of my neck is swollen, very tender to touch, I was wondering if this is related and should I see my doctor?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just to clarify -- did you mean "hypothyroid" (LOW) or "hyperthyroidism" (HIGH) -- as levoxyl is only appropriate for HYPOthyroidism.....

A tender thyroid and hyperthyroidism is most consistent with subacute thyroiditis which is NOT treated with levoxyl unless you have already entered the hypo phase of this condition.

I would recommend seeing a thyroid specialist, have an ultrasound, and get a definite diagnosis as to the problem.  Most likely thyroid antibodies will be tested as well.

I would suggest seeing the doctor about your neck. It is always wise to see a doctor when we are in doubt or have a question about our health.  This way if it is nothing then the mind will be at ease and we can go on with our daily lives in peace. if it is something then perhaps we caught it early enough to where treatment will be minimal.  Either way it can be a win win situation.

Good Luck.
