TSH results

I am 24 years old male (190lbs). My neurologist ordered a thyroid test and a B12 test to see what they were because i was told by him I have a mild case of neuropathy in my legs. I had the results faxed over to me so I can have a hard copy and get a second opinion. Results are:

TSH = 3.263   Reference Interval .350 - 5.500
B12 = 613       Reference Interval 211 - 911

That seems to show my TSH is normal range but I have done some research online and they said in 2003 that the interval was changed to .3 - 3.0  Any advice? Does this mean I need medicine?

You need to make sure that your Free T3 is up there in the range along with your Free t4. I think the Uptake test is really just a waste of money. When you get your FREE T3 results back make sure you are at the top of the range as well. Where are your ANTIBODYs tests (anti-TPO and TgAb. YOU NEED BOTH). Your doctor needs to run these to understand what is going on.

And you are correct: Your TSH is 3, which is high, and along with the symptoms, it really sounds like hypo. My cholesterol was very high when I was untreated. In fact my LDL is now less than 20% of what is was two years ago -- yes my LDL was that terrible when hypo!

To get better, I had to take Armour (NOT synthroid), and treat my adrenals with Cortef, and low ferritin with iron.

Please post the lab ranges beside the result so we can have a point of reference! And make sure they are testing FREE t3 and T4.

Hi I am 32 years old and I have recently had my bloodwork done and test for my thyroid. The lab results are as follows. Free T4 2.45
                                TSH <0.004
                                 T3     362
I have a copy of the lab results and I know that they are all off but I still don't know what this means.
Do I have Hyper or Hypothyroidism???  I am overweight and ALWAYS EXHAUSTED!!!! I don't ever want to do anything because I am always so tired. I have always been tired but it has gotten far worse now. I feel like I am lazy, I don't want to cook, clean nothing. I do it because I have to but I dread it. I have 2 children and another on the way and I feel like I don't do anything with them and I feel aweful about it. I know I need to goto the Dr. and my ob is waiting on these results but until then I am hoping to find out some answers on my own. Someone Help!

You should get your antibodies checked. If your doctor doesn't care to order these tests or you want to bypass a  Dr. visit (you don't need doctors orders) you can go this route:

http://www.healthcheckusa.com/lab_tests/Thyroid_Screenings/Anti-Thyroid_Antibodies

(I think code 12345 is long-standing and will take 10% off your order)

If you click on their main page, you can scout for a lab nearby you. Either way, I think you need to talk about your current findings with your doc. If you have elevated thyroid antibodies-along with your current TSH...some doctors will treat with medication. Dr. Lupo is one of them.

I was reading online about Hashimoto's. One sign is high cholesterol. I have had high cholesterol since i was 20 well thats when i started getting tested. It was around 250 then and my Tri's were high also around 450. My doctor told me to exerise and diet i have been doing this for a while and my cholesterol remains high. Should i bring this TSH results up to my primary dr? I do not want to get on cholesterol medication when something else might be the cause of that.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
B12 is fine.

TSH is a little high -- would repeat in 4-5 weeks along with TPO and Tg antibodies to see if this may be an early case of hashimoto's.
