Dear Dr. Lupo,
I have been diagnosed as hypothyroid. Following is a summary of my medical history:
I am 47 and have been epileptic since the age of 11. Been on Dilantin and Phenobarbitol ever since. Tendency for patelar dislocation since I was 10. Height is 5 ft and used to weigh around 95lbs, over the past 5 years have experienced weight gain and am now 110lbs. Along with weight gain there has been shortness of breath, decreased energy level, pain in joints and feet. Developed vertigo and Neuro believed it was BPV and have been taking Meclazine as and when needed. Was diagnosed with ovarian cysts last year. Six months ago had a metallic taste in mouth which was unbearable and took Clindamycin for it. Ended up with severe fatigue, could not keep my eyes open, heavy lids, very scary.Initial blood work and repeat testing after 2 weeks indicated following:
6/11/10 TSH 4.29hi, Free T4 0.73low, testerone% free dial 0.19 low, Testerone free dialys 0.3 low
6/16/10 TSH 2.870, Free T4 0.79low, T4 4.2low, T3 103
7/6/10 TSH 4.130, Free T4 0.78low, T4 5.3, T3 91, LH 52, PSH 50.9, Estradol, 150.40,
When I had the 7/6 blood work done I had skipped a period cycle, but have been regular since. Throat scan has not been done but my endo felt the presence of 2 cold nodules. Have been on Synthyroid 25mcg since October 1st. My hair is falling out in clumps, quite frankly since the very first day after taking Synthyroid, so I am not sure if Synthyroid is the cause. Have lost half my hair in the past 2 weeks, and have got a bout of vertigo again and am back on Meclazine. I am also soooo tired. Does Synthyroid cause irreversible hair loss? Can I take Armour instead?
Sincerely,
Ateeg
