I was just recently dx with Hashimoto's disease

I was just recently dx with Hashimoto's And my new doctor is increasing my meds now I am on 150mcg, he said that until my thyroid inflamation goes down I would get almost to normal, My questions is am I ever going to loose weight and is my thryroid going to die eventually, I am up to 250 pounds, my weight increases by 10 pounds but to loose it is by 1 to 2 pounds and it takes weeks, I also have policystic ovarian disease, but when they see the sonogram they don't see cysts, this new doctor gave me metformin and spirilactone. how long does it take to see a difference?

The PCOS is the cause of weight gain, with thyroid likely playing only a small role.  Metformin may help a little but the mainstay is regular exercise and good eating habbits -- 5 hours/week of exercise and 1200-1500 calories per day (or possibly less) with a focus on minimizing sugars and starches.

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's as well. I've found that most docs don't know enough about the treatment of thyroid disorders. Lately I've been pretty bad about taking my meds, but I felt like they were making me feel crazy. Seriously. So, it can take a few months to see real changes once you begin taking medication, but the problem is finding the right meds, and in the right dosages.

I'm taking Levothyroxine and Cytomel. You will start to lose weight, but it will be very subtle. I was so hoping for some miraculous overnight weight loss, but it just doesn't happen that way. Are you eating right and exercising every day? You want to be sure to get some kind of cardio in ever day. I don't mean take an aerobics class, but do something to get your metabolism moving upward.

It works. Last year I went from 145 pounds to 126 pounds just by breathing in a specific way. I can't tell you how happy I was. It was the easiest weight loss I have ever had. I don't know if I can tell you exactly how to do it on here. It's something you kind of have to see. Let me know if you're interested. It'll help you feel better mentally if you're feeling foggy or depressed like I was.

You'll even notice changes in your skin. It's so wierd, but it's like magic to me. It certainly hasn't cured my Hashimoto's, but the benefits are great.

By the way, if your docs aren't finding the cysts, you need to see someone else or ask for another kind of test. Same with your thyroid.

Take care and I wish you the best of health and healing.
