Looking for Endo in South Florida

Please see my earlier post with the same subject dated July 8, 2010.

Dr Lupo, Pete, my brother had a friend refer another Endo for him to see in Ft Lauderdale. He took his lab results, etc. Her focus was on his testosterone levels. She made no comment about the burning sensation in his thyroid, nor his TSH leve at or near 4.0, nor his inexplicable and serious weight gain, nor his high blood pressure, nor.....etc, etc. He is so very frustrated, he may have another heart attack. I (we) are looking for an endo that will take in ALL the information, listen to the person, treat the body as a whole, genuinely assess the data and work out a program. Myself: (1) I am tracking my own basal temperature several times a day. (2) I KNOW I am insulin-resistant. (3) Taking 50 mcg Synthroid for 90+ days, my TSH is stilll high at 2.45. (4) Weight-wise: I run 4.5 miles per day yet the results are NOT reflective of the effort. (5) My BP is still on the high side. And cholesterol: LDL was  over 200 about 6 months ago.  Additionally, my daughter, 24 has more outward signs of hypothyroid with facial hair and +60 lbs overweight. I am so worried about her.

Please. I cannot get my brother's hopes up again for another medical professional to let him down. Are you the kind of doctor we're seeking?  I look forward to hearing back from you.

Thank you so much.

Dr Lupo,

Would you provide a brief explanation about your response that my brother's thyroid may not be the main culrit? I'm curious what you may be referring, and I'm sure you information will help when he goes to this endo.

Thank you.

Your response that the thyroid is NOT the man culprit intrigues me. Would you speculate a bit just so I can understand a little more? This helps when I speak with the endo.

Sounds like your brother's issues may be more insulin resistance related as well.  The TSH of 4.0 needs evaluation, but the thyroid is not likely the main culpirt.  A general endocrinologist is probably the best choice, our practice is limited to thyroid/parathyroid w/ a focus on nodules, cancer and hyperthyroidism.
