The hyperthyroidism is likely autoimmune (ie Graves disease) and can cause the muscle weakness. Beta blockers will protect the heart and help with some symptoms, but not muscle weakness. 7 weeks is a long time to wait for an evaluation for symptomatic hyperthyroidism -- would call the endo's office to try to get on the cancellation list for an earlier appointment.
In addition to the first comment I made earlier, The Endo said I didn't have graves dis. since the anto. were low. I was in a car accident 1971 that started the neck problems and I have tried to wait, since this was a slow and progress situation until they had defined the surgery since it involved 6/7 and 7/t1.
The right foot has a small fracture, planters fascitis, and a neuromas. But the falls occured when I was wlaking 3 miles a day prior to the fracture. I'm not walking much now.
I presently don't take any pain meds. only Vit d, and calcium w/ mag. and that relieves 1/2 the pain to a level I can handle. My Vit d was at 25 in Aug of 2007 and back to normal with daily meds. now. When the D kicked in which took 6 months 70% of the all over pain quite. Thanks in advance for any advice you may beable to offer.
I was diagnosed in Sept of 2006 with hyperthyroid & acute Thyrodist which was painfull.
In 1998 they put me on a beat blocker for palpations.
Two weeks ago they said the thyroid was differently hypothyroid now and had been for sometime and proven it was not going to go back to normal and put me on synthroid 25 mg. My first reaction after 5 days was the foggy brain had left and so did the anxiety I had been feeling for months.
Then after about 8 days on it I started feeling dizzy took the B/P and it was low so I tried not taking the B/P and every 3 days it would start spiking slightly. After review with the Dr. they said to go off the Toprol 25 mg. or cut it in half or into a 1/4. Well I've gotten it down to a 1/4 of a pill when the B/P feels out of wracked. But I'm still filling dizzy and nausea and the B/P is 120/81 pulse 89. They told me I probably didn't need the B/P any more and that I was having withdrawal since from coming off the beta-blocker.
I've been to the hand Dr. for weakness and no feeling in some fingers, Been to the foot Dr. and they are treating the symptoms but waiting for me to go to a spine Dr. I had test done in 2006 and it showed spinal deg. in all 1/2 thru 7/T1 6/7 ant T/1 being the worse. Compressed nerve. NO therapy at that time. I have fallen a few times and I thought it was me but now after reading this last log I think since it is the right foot I'm having the most problems with maybe I am dragging it. I also have pain in a line down coming down the outside front of the right leg. I almost feel like I need to hire
a person to keep up with all the different Dr. Any suggestions
If that beta blocker is for cholesterol it may be what's causing the muscle weakness. My father was taking one of the popular cholesterol drugs which had a side effect of causing tremendous pain and muscle weakness.
Thank you for the quick response. I will contact the endocrinologist's office in the morning.
