TSH number increased in 6 months-what now? (chapter 2)

Thanks Dr. Lupo:
In my question to you on 10/15, I mentioned that my TSH increased from 2.77 to 3.63 in 6 months.  You responded to my questions and asked for these other numbers: T-4, Free: 1.2; T3, Free: 305;  Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies: <10.  Any insight is appreciated -

Your TSH is actually above the upper limit, the range was changed several years ago to 0.3-3.00 and there is even further consideration of lowering it to 2.5. In fact one lab in the USA is already using 2.5 as the upper limit . What were the ranges for the FT3 and FT4 ? The TSH range is pretty universal.

The other labs are normal.  The TSH is still reasonably normal and there is no research that suggests that this TSH requires treatment.  Would look at thyroid ultrasound to see if there is goiter or evidence of chronic inflammation.  If there are no symptoms, would observe.
