Symptoms of Hyperthyroidism

I have a strong family history of thyroid disease ranging from my mother, to grandmother, to even aunts.  Over the past 2-3 years, I've experienced many symptoms of hyperthyroidism, such as weight lose, fatigue, palpatations, anxiety, etc.  I have the blood test done and it comes back normal.  2 years ago, I had a nodule come up and had a thyroid uptake scan done.  The test showed hyperthyroidism.  I'm already a skinny person, but in a month, I went from 142 pounds to 125 pounds and I'm 5'9.  My hair started getting thin and I was tired all the time.  LIke I said though, the TSH test has always came back normal.  My mom had a similar issue.  SHe had all the symptoms of hypothyroidism but her TSH test came back normal.  After finally finding a specialist, he did the TRH test on her and it finally showed hypothyroidism.  He gave her medicine and she's been fine since.  Is there any way that this could be an issue for me as well??

YOU CAN GET A TRH TEST DONE IN THE US.  MOST DOCTORS DON'T KNOW WHERE TO GET THEM DONE.  IF YOU DO YOUR RESEARCH YOU WILL BE ABLE TO FIND A DOCTOR THAT ADMINISTERS THEM THROUGH THEIR OWN LAB.  I FOUND THAT SEVERAL HOLLISTIC DOCTORS STILL DO TRH TESTS BECAUSE THEY DO NOT BELEIVE THE TSH TEST IS THE ALL MIGHTHY TEST THAT IS NOT INFALLIBLE.  I WILL BE HAVING ONE DONE IN THE US BY A HOLLISTIC DOCTOR.  ALSO MOST DOCTORS WILL NOT TREAT A THYROID PROBLEM WITH NORMAL LEVELS DUE TO THE RISKS HOWEVER, I PERSONALLY DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE RISKS OF TREATMENT SINCE THERE IS NO EVIDENCE BACKING UP THESE SUPPOSEABLE RIKS.  THERE SIMPLY IS NOT ENOUGH RESEARCH BEING DONE FOR THYROID DISEASE.  HOWEVER, HOLLISTIC DOCTORS SEEM TO TAKE THE TIME TO DO THE RESEARCH AND ARE MUCH MORE OPEN MINDED WITH A WONDERFUL BEDSIDE MANNER THAT THEY ARE ACTUALLY TAUGHT WHEN THEY GO TO MED SCHOOL.  CONVENTIONAL DOCTORS ARE TAUGHT TO DISTANCE THEM SELVES FROM THE PATIENT.  GOOD LUCK, I HOPE THIS HELPS AND GO WITH YOUR GUT ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE A FAMILY HISTORY OF MEDICAL DISEASE.

TRH is not available in the US and not necessary in the vast majority of cases.  If labs are normal, would not treat with anti-thyroid drugs for "hyperthyroidism" symptoms.  Treating a borderline high TSH in the presence of "hypothyroid" symptoms has a much more appealing risk/benefit ratio.
