An ultrasound of the thyroid is the first step along with blood tests for thyroid. If the blood tests show a normal (or high) TSH and the ultrasound confirms a nodule (usually a benign overgrowth of normal thyroid) then FNA biopsy may be needed -- only 5-10% of thyroid nodules are cancer.
sorry posted this question in the wrong spot!!
I discovered a lump in my throat that was diagnosed as a Thyroid Cyst after having an ultrasound. The ultrasound also showed low level echos which could be a colliod nodule? so I was sent for a FNAB which came back OK (havent seen or read the result yet). The cyst was suctioned at the time but two days later has returned. What should be my next step?? I am a 35 year old female. Have also had a sore neck and blocked right ear. thank you
Thank you for the speed in which you answered my question - much appreciated.
