Thyroid problem..

My wife had some tests and ultrasound done on her thyroid here are the results.. Can ya please tell us what this all means..She's scheduling an appoitment but we would like a little insight before then..

Labs.

T4 FREE 1.2
TSH 2.33
THYROPEROXIDASE AB 0.7
THYROGLOBULIN AB 253

CRP INFLAMMATORY 11
EPITHELIAL CELLS MANY


Ultrasound performed and the report as follows.

CLINICAL HISTORY:Evaluate for possible enlarged thyroid.

FINDINGS:  The right lobe of the thyroid gland measured 4.9 cm x 1.6 cm x 1.5 cm. Theisthmus measured 5 mm. The left lobe of the thyroid gland measured 5.1 cm x1.6 cm x 1.5 cm. Bilateral thyroid nodules are identified. There is a nearisoechoic nodule mid polar right lobe of the thyroid gland which measured 12mm x 12 mm x 10 mm. There is a mixed echogenicity nodule in the mid to lowerpolar region of the left lobe of the thyroid gland which measured 3.2 cm x 1.8cm x 2.0 cm.  

IMPRESSION:Dominant nodule left lobe of the thyroid gland. Biopsy should be considered.

Okay thanks, so..... even after they are biopsied cancer or not do they need to be removed or watched?

The labs show normal thyroid function with an antibody against thyroglobulin (a thyroid protein) present that is likely explained by her thyroid nodules.  These nodules carry a 5-10% risk of cancer and at minimum the 3.2cm nodule should be biopsied.  Thyroid medications are not routinely indicated in this situation.
