Iodine effect on my Thyroid for purifying water.

Hi,

I have Hypopituitarism, which means my Thyroid gland is not getting the right hormones transmitted to it from the pituitary gland to produce the correct quantitiy of T's.

I am very much into outdoor activities and because of this sometimes I may need to purify water to drink. There are a number of ways of doing this. One is to use Iodine. I am aware that this can affect the Thyroid gland for people who have problems with this, but I would like to get some information as to how this could effect me with my specific condition.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Toby

If you are on thyroxine and the T4/T3 are stable (as you know, TSH is not reliable in this setting), then iodine to purify the water should not cause a problem.
