Thyroid Scan results

Scan showed 1.9cm on laft lobe and a 1.4 on  right.  They have some smaller companions on each lobe.  The thyroid nodules are all warm and functioning.  The Doc said to just FNB the two larger ones.  He seemed to think it was nonspecific?  My last TSH .46 and I have not had a full panel.  My sis, bro and dad have Hashimotos.  I am a diabetic and doc has felt the left one for about a year and suggested that I have a baseline US.  I am awaiting the biopsy report.  What is your gut feeling about this?  Thanks, L

Likely benign nodular thyroid in the setting of hashimotos (even with the normal TSH), but the FNA is indicated for these two nodules to be certain --- 5-10% of these may be thyroid cancer.

Ok the test came back benign adenomatoids with a collection of Hurthle cell changes believed to be associated with Hashimotos.  Diagnosis favors adenotal nodule verses Hurhtle cell neoplasm.  Four cytologists agreed to thid diagnosis.  My Endo is sending the slides to another hospital to get a second opinion. If thhis is the diagnosis what is the followup?  If this next doctor says he is concerned about the Hurthle cells then what?  Thanks

I agree with an expert opinion -- I use Dr. Massoll at University of Florida for this -- if the second opinion comes back as Hurthle neoplasm then the doc will recommend surgery -- so if that is the case, get the third opinion....as this is likely hashimotos.

My endo sent the slides to the Univ. of Miami to someone she really trusts. Not sure the name.  If he comes back with a conflicting report from the other panel I will get the third opinion from the Doctor you spoke of, hopefully.  I will let you know when this comes back.  Meanwhile I am having a very difficult time taking care of my self, eating, sleeping, functioning.  My understanding is that Hurtle cell neoplasm is VERY serious compared to other thyroid cancers?   Is that true?  Thanks
