idiopathic hyperprolactinemia

Besides a pituitary tumor, brain MRI was normal with the exception of a convex area (both of my doctors are not concerned)  What else should be ruled out.  I am still sick with loss of appetite, nausea, some pain in my chest back.  Mu cortisol was slightly elevated too.  they have me doing 2 24 hour urines, one for cortisol, the other is a 5-HIAA (what is this for?).  Thanks for explaining what is going on.

Just had an upper endoscopy, and abd CT scan and MRI (to identify a lesion found in my liver on the CT scan, consistent with a hemangioma).  Had a colonoscopy 4 years ago which was squeaky clean...

The 5HIAA is to look for carcinoid (not pituitary related).  A GI (gastroenterologist) evaluation to look into the stomach would be appropriate.  The high cortisol is likely a normal response to the stress you are undergoing and not a sign of a pituitary problem - but a 24h urine cortisol will help address that (the high cortisol also excludes addison's as the cause of symptoms).  Ask your doctor if you are on any medications that may cause an elevation of prolactin in the blood.
