Thyroid Peroxidase

I was diagnosed with autoimmune thyroid disease and placed on 25mcg of Levothyroxine - my labs came back with the TSH @ 5.27 and the thryorid peroxidase at 959. My physician ( a General Practitioner) says I might need a slight increase in medicine, I will see her on Tuesday. I am thinking the number is quite high and perhaps would be better of seeing a specialist. The 959 number scares me, so my question is, should it, is it normal to have such a high number. I feel very concerned.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
The level of thyroperoxidase (TPO) does not alter the management - it only confirms the diagnosis of Hashimoto's.  The target TSH is 0.3-2.5, so the levothyroxine dose should be increased based on the high TSH, not the TPO.
