I have also had tics that have come and gone throughout my life.  They disapeared for a while when i was in my late teens and twenties but right after I had my first child they really came back and have not gone away (13 years now).  The one medication that really helped me was Paxil.  I took it for anxiety/depression and noticed that it also took my tics away.  You might want to try that.  I am off the med now and my tics have returned but I am thinking of trying it again or something else.  Good luck, I know how you feel, it's the worst.

I am taking Risperdal and I agree with your doctor, these meds actually give me other symptoms that are like tics. I did the same thing over the years, I went from having one type of tic to another kind. The sniffing thing was one of them. Now I have this jerking in my throat. Also I roll my eyes alot. It seems that stress makes the tics worse. But over all I think they have gotten more mild since I have gotten older.

Hi!
I am terribly sorry you have to go through what you are experiencing. My son has TS as well. He is not currently on any meds. When he has an episode we deal with it through relaxation and try to find something to concentrate on, like puzzles, reading, video games. He is only 13.
I wish you luck in finding something to relieve your symptoms!
